Alling Cory Lofts

136 North Division, Buffalo, New York

F&S Design Studio was the sole Landscape Design Consultant for this historical rehabilitation project. The AC Lofts will feature a mix of studio and multi-bedroom units and is targeted to be home for 289 students including a small first floor convenience store also planned for the building. F&S Design Studio was actively involved in the site planning as well as the landscape design for this project. Several green spaces were assigned to not only buffer the proposed parking areas, but to allow students to enjoy the outdoors. A 4,200 sq. ft. urban park area was developed with formal and informal seating areas, plantings and site amenities to maximize usage. All materials were chosen to replicate the age of the historical building, laid out in a contemporary design to intrigue the visitor and accent the updated features of the overall design. F&S Design Studio also provided consulting services for exterior lighting, choosing placement and fixture specifications. Conceptual renderings (3D Models provided in-house) and rendered plans were provided for presentation purposes from F&S Design Studio, as well as a proposed plant and material palette. Working documents including planting and dimension plans were provided for the project CD set upon review and approval from the project architect.

Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural

F&S Design was hired to provide a long-term landscape plan for this national historic site. Working with the Olmstead Parks Conservancy, we developed a plan for the Wilcox Mansion based on historic photos taken during Theodore Roosevelt’s inauguration in 1901. The mansion has been renovated into a historic museum, including a now complete carriage house addition, which will serve as the main entry and gift shop. In addition to the historic planting plan, we designed a prominent circle patio space including an inlay of medina stone, granite and a medallion, introducing the visitor’s to the site. Contemporary metal benches are placed to provide seating while accenting the glass stair enclosure implemented during the new renovations. F&S also provided a proposed design for signage as well as the replication of some historic landscape features.

Nardin Academy

Location: Buffalo, NY

Client: Schneider Design Architects, PC

F&S Design Studio was the sole Landscape Design Consultant for the $3.5 million expansion at Nardin Academy, a private school in Buffalo, N.Y. Two 11,000-square-foot wings; one for the high school and one for the elementary school, were designed by Schneider Design Architects, PC who consulted with F&S on the affected landscape areas. The additions will be built to accommodate the school’s need to expand, including a new orchestra room, photography studio and additional fine arts programming space. The elementary school wing will feature a dance studio, music department and foreign language classroom. The plan included a secluded seating area for the students to embrace the outdoors while learning the arts. A shade tolerant/low maintenance plant palette enhances the areas while acting as a buffer from the surrounding neighborhoods. The chosen hardscape materials, boulder ‘sculpture’, bollards and benches accent the architecture of the building and are incorporated into the landscape plans. Conceptual renderings and 3D Model views (shown here) were provided for presentation purposes from F&S Design Studio, as well as a proposed plant and material palette. Working documents including planting and dimension plans were provided for the project CD set upon review and approval from the project architect.

Newman Center at UB

Location: Amherst, New York

F&S Design Studio was the sole Landscape Design Consultant for the newly constructed religious facility adjacent to the University of Buffalo’s north campus. The Newman Center was designed by Schneider Design Architects, PC who consulted with F&S on the site plan and circulation, as well as the overall landscape plan. The intent of our involvement in this project was to blend the building back into its natural surroundings. The native wildlife in the area affected the plant palette options and was taken into consideration for the entirety of the site. Native tree species also were chosen to allow for a natural transition between the building and the adjacent woodlands. Site amenities including planters, benches, trash receptacles, and bike racks were chosen to accent the architecture of the building and were incorporated into the landscape plans. F&S also consulted on both placement and specifications of all exterior light fixtures. Conceptual renderings (hand sketches) and rendered plans were provided for presentation purposes from F&S Design Studio, as well as a proposed plant and material palette. Working documents including planting and dimension plans were provided for the project CD set upon review and approval from the project architect. 3D Computer renderings shown here were outsourced by the Project Architect.
